The Williamsburg Spelling Bee

Pete's Candy Store, 709 Lorimer Street, Brooklyn

Are you a solid sesquipedalianist? A gratuitous grammarian? Get on down to Pete’s Candy Store this Labor Day. Your friends may hit the bar, but you’re hittin’ the dictionary. This is is serious stuff. Sign-up for the competition begins at 7 p.m. and the first 18 folks to arrive get to play, so be sure to get there early. As always, they’ve enacted the three-strikes-you're-out policy, so one word wrong won’t get you kicked out. Failte Irish Whiskey Bar, 531 2nd Avenue, Manhattan

Admission is $10 per person and comes with a free can o’ Bud Light. Pro-tip: if you RSVP ahead of time, you’ll be eligible to win prizes on the day of the show.
