We think it’s safe to say that the folks at Shalimar, a family-owned, family-run Indian restaurant in Green Hills, are some of the nicest in town. After over 20 years in the business, they continue to greet customers with the kind of genuine enthusiasm we imagine dissipates in most restaurants after opening day. It’s that kind of hospitality coupled with dishes that are righteously executed and beautifully presented that has solidified Shalimar’s stance as Nashville’s premier destination for fine Indian cuisine. (We're not the only ones who think so, either—the restaurant has been voted Best Indian cuisine in Nashville from 2006 to 2013 by LocalEats. Not too shabby, Shalimar.)

Located in Green Hills, Shalimar offers traditional Indian dishes both carnivore-friendly and vegetarian, including popular favorites like chicken tikka masala (roasted chicken in a creamy, spicy masala sauce) and shrimp jelfraze (shrimp cooked in a heady blend of Indian spices), as well as soups, appetizers and desserts. And for those new to Indian cuisine, let's just say it's more than curry, but don't take our word for it: talk to the Shalimar staff. They love guiding newbies through the menu and they’ll never once make you feel weird or embarrassed about your lack of Indian food knowledge. (Trust us, we know from experience, which is why we know Indian food is way more diverse than simple curries.) And if all that wasn't sweet enough, Shalimar's BYOB policy matches the staff's attitude: it's totally awesome—there's no corking fee.
