Mezcalito's Cocina & Tequila Bar

50% off Mezcalito's Cocina & Tequila Bar
Oakhurst Village's beloved Mexican hangout has packed up and expanded to Grant Park, filling a former warehouse space with the sights and smells of green rice, tequila and Day of the Dead-esque decor.
Conventional wisdom might say friendly people (or fences) make good neighbors. We say it's someone with a plentiful supply of tacos, mad margarita-mixing skills and a standing invite to everyone to come join the dinner party. So it makes sense that Grant Park's new kid on the block is already making friends with the neighborhood. It's true: Oakhurst Village's beloved Mexican hangout has packed up and expanded to Grant Park, filling a former warehouse space with the sights and smells of green rice, tequila and Day of the Dead-esque decor. And with its skull-bedecked interior (and nefarious devil water), we think this new post across from Oakland Cemetery is a perfect fit.

What was once a rusty warehouse space is now a cozy den housing Mezcalito's signature riffs on Mexican cuisine—and these more spacious digs mean, of course, more room for tacos. Translation: a newly expanded menu of Mexican delights from which to choose, from a bevy of new tacos to a south-of-the-border shrimp 'n grits, not to mention a weekend brunch menu. Breathe easy, diehard fans—your chilaquiles and other standbys are safe and sound. Also surviving the trek from Oakhurst unscathed: that big, ominous jar of Devil Water, a face-melting, Scoville scale-breaking, pepper-infused tequila forged in the flames of Hades. If your sinuses don't need clearing, however, the freshly prepped margaritas flow from the bar like honey (but not, mind you, like syrup—there's nary an ounce of that dastardly prepackaged mix to be found). A dozen different tacos, an arsenal of tequila and a plate of churros or tres leches to top it all off? It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
